Our bees are raised here on our 10 acre farm in Michigan. We are organically-minded folks who grow our own organic vegetables, fruit orchard, and have bees! We also raise our bees in three other bee yards in forested settings. We maintain an average of 50 hives throughout the year. Our primary focus is honey production but we do tend to offer smaller varieties of propolis, creamed honey, beeswax, and raw honeycomb. We maintain a high quality level of our honey by limiting the bees exposures to treatments and introducing mite resistant bees yearly.
Rustic Roots Farm is further expanding it’s bee business and will be selling bee NUC’s and Queens this spring 2022. We have been working for quite a few years to build up our bee yards and improve the vitality of our bees. We are now at a point where we feel comfortable selling NUC’s and Queens to new and experienced beekeepers alike. We are part of the Chelsea Area Beekeepers club committed to promoting the sale of bees from local sources and increasing local beekeeper knowledge. This year we will have a number of NUC’s available for sale. If interested send an email at rusticrootsfarm@gmail.com. More info is available at: Chelsea Area Beekeepers nucs
Nucs are short for a nucleus colony which means a smaller hives box consisting of 5 frames that hold a queen, worker bees, drones, honey, and brood (babies). Basically, its a mini beehive to get your started beekeeping. It’s a good idea to get nucs from local sources as the queens are acclimated to your own climate and have been proven survivors if they come from overwintered bees. Send an email to rusticrootsfarm@gmail.com if you’d like to be put on the list.
We use all parts of our bee hives. We make mead (honey wine), create candles from beeswax, make lip balms and salves, harvest propolis, raw honeycomb, creamed honey, and of course have lots and lots of raw honey. Over the holidays there are holiday honey gift baskets available.
