Our farm is located in Dexter, Michigan. We are organically-minded folks who believe in living a more sustainable lifestyle and enjoy doing farming projects. We've started with an organic garden, field of herbs, fruit orchard, forested woods, hoop house, a greenhouse, bees, goats, custom woodworking, and chickens. We've also teamed up with my farming-minded (and most excellent) in laws to combine even more bee and baa (bees and sheep wool) products! Now it is an official business selling all things "bees, baas, and buds"!
Come by and visit our new Farmer’s Market Shed, self-serve and open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM. Inside, you'll find a variety of Rustic Roots items, including our own honey products, eggs, wool, and handcrafted wood items. We also offer a rotating selection of unique local artisanal items, as we’re always on the lookout for the best products from nearby artisans to share with our community. Stop by and discover the treasures our market shed has to offer!
Farm Helpers
It takes a lot of people to run a farm! Usually it’s a lot of behind the scenes work too. Here are the folks that make Rustic Roots Farm grow.
About Jill: Farmer in charge. I run the daily farm life. I run the correspondence, markets, Etsy shop, and farm shack. I enjoy and tend to the chickens, goats, honeybees, gardens and the trees. I take produce to the markets and storefronts.
About Jeff: Husband/Woodworker extraordinaire. Jeff keeps the tractor oiled, the finances secure, and hey somebody has to do the heavy lifting.
About John: Multi-talented father-in-law. He's the guy who introduced us to bees and sheep and supported me in all my never-ending farming endeavors.
About Jan: Author of many farming books including Livestock Guardians and The Encyclopedia of Historic and Endangered Livestock and Poultry Breeds and beloved sheep owner.
Farmer kid: Landon. Full of energy and always willing to help catch a chicken or twenty. He has become a budding beekeeper. Always ready to lift a heavy beehive box while having no fear of bees.
Youngest farmer: Allison. Budding farmer girl in training. She makes sure the chickens are well watered, fed, and cuddled. She also appreciates her momma’s garden. This year she started horseback riding. She now is in charge of the goats as she explains, “they are the closest to horses!”
Cora: Border Collie farm dog. She’s excelling in her role as chicken protector. She’s also the guardian of goats and she *thinks* she’s in charge of the barn cat
